Theory of Constraints stories

Via Kevin Rutherford, I’ve discovered a new blog written by Kevin Fox. Kevin tells stories of how he used the Theory of Constraints to solve business problems. I really like the “Blue Light” story which shows the dramatic effects of “exploiting the constraint”, letting the bottleneck (welders) work only on what brings value (welding), not on other tasks such as moving stuff, pealing off plastic, waiting…

I think I may know of a similar situation. But, unlike Kevin, I’m not even allowed to go and look at the “welders” to see how much time they spend on their core activity. Of course, the quick fix is to hire more “welders” because, as in the story, their manager says “they are busy all the time“…

I hope Kevin will publish more of his stories. Subscribed.
